Revisit our virtual Song Cycle event.
We recently gathered around the virtual fireplace to celebrate Donna Decker's book, Under the Influence of Paradise: Voices of Key West, with a reading of several of her poems, accompanied by music arranged and composed by Andy Moorer. The readings included appearances by Charlie Wilkinson, Helen Decker, Sandra Parris and Eddie Pepitone. Topping it off, Donna herself reads The Man in the Mangroves Counts to Sleep, followed by playback of our work-in-progress animatic for the animated film.This event enjoyed a great audience turnout. Thank you, Backers!
One of the perks of supporting The Man in the Mangroves is the opportunity to participate in behind-the-scenes events like the one held today. Donna, Andy, Ralph and our animators Caitlin & Sam, previewed the first 4 minutes of the film in story reel form. The screening was followed by a Q&A session moderated by Dr. Helen Decker. Audience feedback is an essential component of the filmmaking process in this project. Take a look at the recording of this Zoom event:

"The Man" in the News
We were delighted to find "The Man" mentioned in today's Tallahassee Democrat. The article described Donna and Andy's visit to the Big Bend Homeless Coalition, to present a $1,500 check. Thanks to the generosity our Kickstarter backers, 5% of those donations were donated to BBHC for their programs that support people living with homelessness.

"The Man" parties on with a Virtual Online Gathering
On May 22, 2021, over 150 people connected via Zoom to celebrate the launch of The Man In the Mangroves Kickstarter campaign. The turnout and the response to our project was enthusiastic.
The event featured Donna Decker reading the poem that inspired the project. Andy Moorer deconstructed one movement of his opera-novella, revealing the layering of themes and chorales that make up this work. To top it off, our animators at Squawk Productions stopped by to explain their process in approaching the visual development of this animated short film. With great questions from the audience, all that was missing was an open bar!
